The Making of "Hamilton Offset" Wood type

The design process began by experimenting with an "offsetting" technique that was discovered by accident. Using an existing Hamilton wood font, the design team at Blinc Publishing inked and took an impression of a complete alphabet.

Grand Opening Festivities

May 29, 1999

May 29, 1999 - With perfect weather, a crowd of over 300 gathered to hear the Washington High School Band play patriotic music. At 4 PM Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson arrived to speak and cut the ribbon, officially opening the first wood type museum in America. J. Michael Brown, President of Fisher Hamilton presented the Governor with a desk name display made out of wood type.

WORLD'S FIRST WOOD TYPE MUSEUM TO OPEN SOON
April 14, 1999

The Two Rivers Historical Society will open a new museum on May 28th, in an adaptive reuse of a 25,000 square foot section of a 1926 Hamilton factory: "The Hamilton Wood Type And Printing Museum."

The museum makes available a massive collection of 19th and 20th century wood type and printing technology. The exhibits also include machines that produced early hot metal type, hand operated printing presses, artisans essential tools, and rare type specimen catalogs that are more than one hundred years old.
